A Call to Action for Nigeria’s Visual Arts Sector

Prince (Dr.) Yemisi Shyllon, a prominent philanthropist and the leading art collector in Africa, has urged private individuals and corporate organizations to increase their investments in Nigeria's visual arts sector. His call came shortly after delivering a distinguished lecture and receiving an award of excellence organized by Obafemi Awolowo University in his honor. However, he noted that many overlooked subsequent verses that clarified the context, allowing for artistic expression without worshiping the works themselves. Similarly, he mentioned Quranic references that permitted artistic creation as long as it was not worshipped.
